Best new parent mistake…
“One Friday night, a -couple of hours after I’d put our two-month-old, Kate, to bed, Mike asked me if I wanted to go get a video. ‘Great idea,’ I said. We both got in the car and drove the less than five minutes to the video store. As I got out, I suddenly remembered that (a) we had a baby and (b) we had left that baby at home. I was in a blind panic and close to tears. How could I have forgotten about Kate? Mike, however, thought that we should still get a video. ‘It’s not like she can get out of the crib and we’re already right
here .?.?. ’ I just left him there and high-tailed it back to the house. Of course she was still asleep and oblivious to our supreme negligence.”

Survey says..
I took this test. Interesting results.
I am a Conservative Democrat.
Based on your answers to the questionnaire, you most closely resemble survey respondents within the Conservative Democrat typology group. This does not mean that you necessarily fit every group characteristic or agree with the group on all issues.
Conservative Democrats represent 14 percent of the American public, and 15 percent of registered voters.
Basic Description
Conservative Democrats’ religious orientation and conservative views on many social and political issues set this group apart from the other Democratic-leaning groups, Liberals and Disadvantaged Democrats. Conservative Democrats’ views are moderate with respect to key policy issues such as foreign policy, regulation of the environment and the role of government in providing a social safety net. Their neutrality on assistance to the poor is linked, at least in part, to their belief in personal responsibility.
Defining Values
Less extreme on moral beliefs than core Republican groups, but most oppose gay marriage and the acceptance of homosexuality, and support a more active role for government in protecting morality. No more conservative than the national average on other social issues such as abortion and stem-cell research. Most oppose the war in Iraq, but views of America’s overall foreign policy are mixed and they are less opposed to Bush’s assertive stance than are other Democratic groups.
Who They Are
Older women and blacks make up a sizeable proportion of this group (27% and 30%, respectively). Somewhat less educated and poorer than the nation overall. Allegiance to the Democratic Party is quite strong (51% describe themselves as “strong” Democrats) but fully 85% describe themselves as either conservative or moderate ideologically.
Lifestyle Notes
46% attend church at least once a week, 44% attend Bible study or prayer group meetings, a third (34%) have a gun in their house.
2004 Election
Bush 14%, Kerry 65%.
Party ID
89% Democrat, 11% Independent/No Preference, 0% Republican,(98% Dem/Lean Dem)
Media Use
Emphasis on traditional providers as main news sources: newspapers (50%) and network TV news (42%).
Note: All descriptions and percentages are based on the national sample of adults surveyed by telephone in December.
In the overall typology there is a ninth group called “Bystanders” who are defined as adults who are not registered, who do not follow news about government and public affairs, and who say they rarely or never vote.
battle
I’ve been fighting a mental funk since Thursday. I have these insanely negative thoughts, and can’t seem to stop them. The negativity towards others is a symptom of the negativity towards myself. If I don’t fight hard enough, it lasts for weeks. I’m fighting this harder than I have before. This time, this year, I’m not alone. It helps to have support.

Our first Valentine’s
We opted out of the standard Valentine meal out and flowers. We had pepper crusted tuna with veggies and a healthy salad. It was so good. I could eat tuna every night. After dinner we worked more on our art (it’s turned into something completely different than the original plan). We’re almost done. I’ll post pictures as soon as it is ready!
A friend is building a bookshelf for us as a wedding present. I’m extremely excited about this, as most of my books are in a hutch and on windowsills. He’s a very talented woodcrafter. Oddly enough, his last name is Woody. Cute, isn’t it?!
We have just over 6 weeks left till the wedding. The RSVPs are rolling in. We get several each day. We’ve received a few donations to our WorldVision fund, and some other random gifts. I’ve ordered the presents for the bridesmaids. My sister is crafting the flowergirl gifts. The flowers, decorations, ribbon and catering are all finalized. I’m only nervous about the number of attendees.
That’s about all I have going on. What about you? Staying simple and calm? I hope so.

Books I’m reading (or have just finished)
1. Special Topics in Calamity Physics
2. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
3. Prayer
4. Bible
5. Knowing God
I just finished Knowing God, Special Topics in Calamity Physics and the Curious Incident. All three were good. Knowing God was almost over my head. Very theological. Next up for fiction is The Red Tent. Not pictured is the Case for Christ and Blue Like Jazz. I’m also reading those. I have an addiction.

Random Items to Ponder (and other News)
1. Is Netscape Navigator not compabtible with WordPress Editing? My arrows, as well as the copy and paste functions, do not work. They’ve also lost two posts when I’ve attempted to publish (This is the second time I’m typing this).
2. Why is it that the personal news blog entries have tanked on the blogs I read, while the craft and artsy inspired blogs are in high gear?
3. I found this craft on a new (to me) blog. The FeeOnSay and I are going to do a cityscene on canvas. I’m pretty excited. I’ll post pictures when we’re done.
4. The invitations have gone out. I still have five to update and send. They’ve all been logged into the “Wedding Guest List” spreadsheet under “Invite Sent.” We also have “Purchasing Worksheets”, “Shower Guest List” and “Wedding Budget” spreadsheets. It gets marginally confusing.
5. I’ve bought half of my bridesmaid’s gifts. The other half is stumping me just slightly. I have some pretty good ideas though.
